USB Flash Drive Data Recovery
A USB stick is the least reliable storage most people own, and the one they are most likely to carry the only copy on.
Faults we recover from
- Not recognized by any computer
- “Please insert a disk” or “You need to format the disk”
- Shows 0 bytes or the wrong capacity
- Bent or snapped connector
- Files deleted or the stick formatted by mistake
How it is done
If the controller chip has failed but the memory chip is sound, the memory can be read directly and the files reassembled. A broken connector can often be repaired long enough to copy everything off.
Brands
- SanDisk Cruzer, Ultra and Extreme
- Kingston DataTraveler
- Samsung BAR and FIT, PNY, Lexar, Corsair and unbranded sticks
Questions
Windows says I need to format the stick. Should I?
No. That message means it cannot be read, not that the files are gone.
The stick snapped in half. Is there any chance?
If the memory chip is undamaged, yes.
Book a visit or a pickup
Call us or book online and tell us the make, the model and what is going wrong. For IT support a technician comes to your home or office. For a repair we pick the computer up from your door, fix it at our own workshop in Burbank and bring it back. We have no storefront, so there is nowhere to drop a machine off. Outside our area, you can mail it to us.
