Data Recovery After Water, Fire or a Drop
A burned or soaked computer usually looks worse than its drive is. The data sits on sealed platters or memory chips, and those often survive.
Damage we deal with
- Laptops knocked off a desk or dropped
- Liquid spills and flood water
- Fire, heat and smoke
- Lightning and power surges
- Mechanical and electrical failure after an impact
What to do
- Do not try to power it on to see if it works.
- Do not dry a wet drive with heat. Keep it sealed in a bag so it stays damp until we have it; drying leaves residue on the platters.
- Do not open the drive.
- Bring us the whole device if the drive is hard to remove.
After a disaster
We worked with customers after the Los Angeles fires: see data recovery after the Pacific Palisades fires. Insurance claims often need a written report, which we can provide.
Questions
The laptop is destroyed. Is the data?
Not necessarily. We remove the drive and work on it directly.
Does it matter how long ago the damage happened?
Yes. Corrosion carries on after the event, so the sooner we have the drive the better.
Book a visit or a pickup
Call us or book online and tell us the make, the model and what is going wrong. For IT support a technician comes to your home or office. For a repair we pick the computer up from your door, fix it at our own workshop in Burbank and bring it back. We have no storefront, so there is nowhere to drop a machine off. Outside our area, you can mail it to us.
