Data Recovery After the Pacific Palisades Fires
After the Pacific Palisades fires we have been recovering data from computers, drives and NAS units damaged by heat, smoke and water.
What survives a fire
More than people expect. A drive’s platters are sealed inside a metal case, and data has been recovered from machines that were melted on the outside. Water from firefighting does as much harm as heat, and it keeps doing harm as it dries.
What to do with damaged equipment
- Do not try to power anything on.
- Do not rinse or dry a wet drive: seal it in a bag as it is.
- Bring us the whole computer or NAS if the drive is hard to reach.
- Tell your insurer you are attempting data recovery.
Before the next one
An off-site backup is the only protection against losing a building. See disaster recovery planning.

Can you provide a report for insurance?
Yes, describing the damage and the work carried out.
Book a visit or a pickup
Call us or book online and tell us the make, the model and what is going wrong. For IT support a technician comes to your home or office. For a repair we pick the computer up from your door, fix it at our own workshop in Burbank and bring it back. We have no storefront, so there is nowhere to drop a machine off. Outside our area, you can mail it to us.
