Samsung Data Recovery
Samsung is the best-selling SSD maker, so its drives are the solid state drives we see most. We also recover its older Spinpoint hard drives.
Samsung models we recover
- SATA SSDs: 840 EVO (MZ-7TE), 850 EVO (MZ-75E), 860 EVO (MZ-76E), 870 EVO (MZ-77E), 860 and 870 QVO
- NVMe SSDs: 970 EVO Plus (MZ-V7S), 980 (MZ-V8V), 980 PRO (MZ-V8P), 990 PRO (MZ-V9P)
- Portable SSDs: T5 (MU-PA), T7 and T7 Shield (MU-PC, MU-PE)
- Built into computers: PM981, PM991 and PM9A1 drives fitted by laptop makers
- Spinpoint hard drives: HD103SJ, HD204UI, HM500JI, ST1000LM024
How these fail
- Sudden death. An SSD that is not detected, or shows a tiny capacity, usually has a controller or firmware fault. The memory chips often still hold the data.
- Deleted files. Samsung SSDs erase deleted data in the background (TRIM). Power the computer off right away if you delete something by mistake.
- Portable T5 and T7. These can be password-protected with hardware encryption; the password is needed for recovery.
Before you send it
- Switch the device off and leave it off.
- Do not format, initialize or run repair tools.
- For a NAS, RAID or server, send every drive, numbered by bay or slot.
- Tell us which files or folders matter most.
Questions
My Samsung SSD is not detected in the BIOS. Can it be recovered?
Sometimes. It depends on whether the controller can be brought back into a readable state.
Do you need my T7 password?
Yes, if the drive was password-protected. Encryption cannot be bypassed.
Book a visit or a pickup
Call us or book online and tell us the make, the model and what is going wrong. For IT support a technician comes to your home or office. For a repair we pick the computer up from your door, fix it at our own workshop in Burbank and bring it back. We have no storefront, so there is nowhere to drop a machine off. Outside our area, you can mail it to us.
