Deleted Files and Formatted Drives
Deleting a file or formatting a drive rarely destroys the data at once. It marks the space as free. What matters is what gets written there next.
What we recover
- Files and folders deleted by mistake
- Drives and memory cards formatted in error
- Lost or inaccessible partitions
- Data damaged by a virus, spyware or malware
- File systems corrupted by a crash or a failed update
- Deliberate deletion or sabotage
Why you should stop using the drive
Everything you save, install or download can land on top of the files you want back. That includes recovery software installed on the same drive. Shut the computer down and leave it off.
How we do it
We take a complete image of the drive first and work only on the image. We then rebuild the file system or search the raw data for your files, and check that what we recover opens.
Questions
I emptied the Recycle Bin. Is it too late?
Usually not on a hard drive, if you stop using it. On an SSD the odds fall quickly; see SSD recovery.
Ransomware encrypted my files. Is that the same thing?
No. See cybersecurity; and do not pay or wipe anything before we have looked.
Book a visit or a pickup
Call us or book online and tell us the make, the model and what is going wrong. For IT support a technician comes to your home or office. For a repair we pick the computer up from your door, fix it at our own workshop in Burbank and bring it back. We have no storefront, so there is nowhere to drop a machine off. Outside our area, you can mail it to us.
