SSD and Flash Drive Data Recovery

Solid state storage gives little warning. One day the drive is simply not there. Recovery is possible in many cases, but it works very differently from a hard drive.

How SSDs fail

Why SSD recovery is different

An SSD has no moving parts. It stores data in memory chips managed by a controller and its firmware, and when that firmware is corrupted the drive locks itself. We use PC-3000 to reach the drive in its service mode, repair the translation tables and read the data out.

A warning about deleted files

On most modern SSDs, deleted files are erased in the background within minutes by a feature called TRIM. If you deleted something by mistake, shut the computer down right away. The sooner it is off, the better the odds.

Questions

Can a dead USB stick be recovered?

Frequently. If the connector is broken or the controller has failed, the memory chip often still holds the data.

My MacBook has soldered storage. Can you recover it?

It depends on the model and the fault. If the logic board can be brought back to life, the data can usually be reached.

Book a visit or a pickup

Call us or book online and tell us the make, the model and what is going wrong. For IT support a technician comes to your home or office. For a repair we pick the computer up from your door, fix it at our own workshop in Burbank and bring it back. We have no storefront, so there is nowhere to drop a machine off. Outside our area, you can mail it to us.
