How Data Recovery Works
People are often handed a price for data recovery with no idea what they are paying for. This is what happens to your drive from the moment it leaves you.
The six steps
- Pickup or mail-in. We pick the device up in the Los Angeles area, or you mail it in. There is no storefront.
- Evaluation. We find out what has failed and how much is readable.
- Quote. You get a price and a time estimate. Nothing further happens unless you agree.
- Imaging. We copy everything readable from the failing drive with PC-3000, sector by sector.
- Recovery. Files are rebuilt from the image, never from the original drive.
- Return. We check the files open, copy them to a new drive and deliver or ship it to you.
What affects the price and the time
The type of failure matters most: a deleted folder on a healthy drive is quick, a drive with a mechanical fault is not. The number of drives matters for RAID and NAS jobs. See prices.
What we need from you
- The device, and every drive from an array
- Any passwords or encryption keys
- A list of the files or folders that matter most
Questions
Will you tell me if it cannot be recovered?
Yes, and what we found.
Can I have the original drive back?
Yes. It is returned with your data unless you ask us to destroy it.
Book a visit or a pickup
Call us or book online and tell us the make, the model and what is going wrong. For IT support a technician comes to your home or office. For a repair we pick the computer up from your door, fix it at our own workshop in Burbank and bring it back. We have no storefront, so there is nowhere to drop a machine off. Outside our area, you can mail it to us.
