Security Checklist for Small Businesses
Twenty questions. If you can answer yes to all of them, you are ahead of most small businesses. Every no is something to fix.
Backups
- Is everything that matters backed up automatically?
- Is one copy off site or offline?
- Has anyone restored from the backup in the last three months?
- Would the backup survive ransomware on the server?
Updates
- Do all computers install updates within two weeks?
- Are the router, firewall and Wi-Fi up to date?
- Is anything still in use that no longer receives security updates?
Accounts
- Is two-step sign-in on for email and cloud accounts?
- Does everyone have their own login?
- Do staff work without administrator rights?
- Are departing employees’ accounts closed the day they go?
- Does the team use a password manager?
Email and web
- Is incoming mail filtered?
- Would staff recognize a fake invoice or password reset?
- Are bank detail changes confirmed by phone?
Network and devices
- Is guest Wi-Fi separate from the office network?
- Is remote desktop closed to the internet?
- Are laptops encrypted?
- Is security software on every device, and is someone watching it?
Plan
- Does everyone know who to call if something looks wrong?

Book a visit or a pickup
Call us or book online and tell us the make, the model and what is going wrong. For IT support a technician comes to your home or office. For a repair we pick the computer up from your door, fix it at our own workshop in Burbank and bring it back. We have no storefront, so there is nowhere to drop a machine off. Outside our area, you can mail it to us.
