Disaster Recovery Planning
Fire, theft, a failed server, ransomware: the event differs but the questions are the same. How long can we be down, and how much work can we afford to lose?
The two numbers that shape the plan
- How long can you be down? An hour, a day, a week. This decides how fast recovery has to be.
- How much can you lose? An hour of work, or a day. This decides how often backups run.
What goes in the plan
- What is backed up, where, and how often
- Who to call, in what order
- Where staff work if the office is unusable
- How each system is restored, step by step
- Where the passwords and license keys are kept
Testing it
A plan that has never been run is a guess. We restore from your backups on a schedule and walk through the plan with you once a year.
Los Angeles has its own risks
Wildfire, earthquakes and long power cuts are part of doing business here. After the fires we helped customers recover data from damaged equipment: see our Pacific Palisades page. An off-site copy is not optional in this city.
Questions
Is this only for larger companies?
No. A two-page plan is enough for most small offices.
Do you keep a copy of our plan?
Yes, off site, so it survives whatever happens to the office.
Book a visit or a pickup
Call us or book online and tell us the make, the model and what is going wrong. For IT support a technician comes to your home or office. For a repair we pick the computer up from your door, fix it at our own workshop in Burbank and bring it back. We have no storefront, so there is nowhere to drop a machine off. Outside our area, you can mail it to us.
