HGST and Hitachi Data Recovery

How these fail
- Travelstar drives in laptops. Most failures follow a drop while the laptop was running.
- Ultrastar helium drives. These are sealed with helium, and mechanical work on them is specialized.
- Age. Many of these drives have run for ten years or more, and wear shows up as bad sectors and slow reads.
Before you send it
- Switch the device off and leave it off.
- Do not format, initialize or run repair tools.
- For a NAS, RAID or server, send every drive, numbered by bay or slot.
- Tell us which files or folders matter most.
