Crucial Data Recovery
Crucial is Micron’s consumer brand, and its MX500 is one of the most widely fitted upgrade SSDs.
Crucial models we recover
- SATA: MX500 (CT500MX500SSD1, CT1000MX500SSD1), BX500 (CT480BX500SSD1, CT1000BX500SSD1), older MX300, MX200, M500 and M4
- NVMe: P2 (CT500P2SSD8), P3 and P3 Plus (CT1000P3SSD8), P5 Plus (CT1000P5PSSD8), T500, T700
- Portable: X6, X8, X9, X10 Pro
How these fail
- Not detected after a power cut. A sudden power loss can corrupt the drive’s internal tables.
- Read-only or frozen. A drive at the end of its life may lock itself to protect data, which is a good moment to recover it.
- Older M4 drives. A known firmware fault stopped these responding after about 5,000 hours of use; the data is recoverable.
Before you send it
- Switch the device off and leave it off.
- Do not format, initialize or run repair tools.
- For a NAS, RAID or server, send every drive, numbered by bay or slot.
- Tell us which files or folders matter most.
Questions
Can data be recovered from a Crucial SSD that will not show up?
In some cases. We check whether the controller can be reached in its service mode.
Does a firmware update erase my data?
It should not, but do not update a drive that is already failing.
